Kansas City, MO — The HALO Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to helping thousands of homeless and at-risk children around the world, is excited to announce a new partnership with 15 and the Mahomies Foundation. Their generous $15,000 donation will support HALO’s Fresh Start Fund, providing a new wardrobe to 50 homeless children to give them the confidence to start setting and reaching their goals. “We are so grateful for the 15 and the Mahomies Foundation for giving our kids a fresh start when they move into a HALO Home,” said HALO Founder and CEO Rebecca Welsh.

“This fund allows our staff to provide important move-in items and take youth shopping for new underwear, socks, shoes, and clothing to get them the things they want and so desperately need. Imagine being a teen with only a garbage bag of everything you own. Every child deserves to be confident. Every child deserves dignity. The Fresh Start Fund gives these kids precisely that.”

Established in 2019, the 15 and the Mahomies Foundation is committed to improving the lives of children and families through health, wellness, and community resources. HALO recently opened a state of the art Boys Home, Girls Home, and Learning Center in Kansas City to expand current programs that serve homeless youth in Kansas CIty. Welsh shared, “HALO receives so many calls from kids who need our help. Here are a few recent voicemails on the need in our Kansas City community. These voicemails are what fuels us every day and are grateful for partnerships like 15 and the Mahomies to help us create a fresh start for these kids.”

The HALO Girls Home provides the foundation of a family to pregnant, parenting, and non-parenting girls ages 16-21 and their children who are homeless or in high-risk situations. The HALO Boys Home serves boys ages 16-21. Each home has a shared living room, kitchen, pantry and laundry room. There are 20 total bedrooms available for the long-term program, typically lasting 18-24 months.

The Kansas City Learning Center currently serves over 700 homeless and at-risk children and partners in the community, offering free services to organizations such as reStart Inc., Fairfax Learning Center, Newhouse, Cornerstones of Care, and Hillcrest Transitional Living Program. Since 2010, the Learning Center has provided therapeutic art programs, tutoring, professional development, scholarships, and life-skill workshops. The new space will allow HALO to provide more in-depth services to youth, guiding them on a successful path to a brighter future.
